Welcome to the QAN Website

This website has been set up by the DfES to enable schools, Local Authorities and Software Suppliers to access to up-to-date qualifications data (tailored from the more generic data DfES receives from QCA) for populating their Management Information Systems (MIS). From September 2007, Secondary schools with sixth forms must record on their MIS Post-16 learning aims being pursued by learners in their sixth form. This data must then be provided to the DfES twice a year through the established School Census collection.

Schools, and their suppliers, can access the latest tables of qualification data in two ways; Web Services and Downloadable Files.

Web Services

The QAN data can be accessed on a real-time basis through a set of SOAP 1.2 Web Services which could be retrieved programmatically by school MIS. Web Services also provides the functionality to search the QAN data. For information on how to access Web Services please download and read the following System Integration Guide.

Downloadable Files

On this website you can access the latest tables of qualification data in XML or CSV format along with XSD and text files that describe the structure of the XML or CSV data respectively. Schools can also access the list of Qualification Accreditation Numbers (QANs) that they used in 2006/7 on the DfES Post16 Learning Aims Management System (PLAMS) and LAs can access the list of QANs used by their schools.
